Johnstown schools are a great school system part of the Weld RE-5J School District covering Johnstown and Milliken, right down to its curriculum. A small portion of their budget is spent on staff professional development, and students are at the very core of what the school teaches. It offers the Johnstown Milliken Online Academy, a free online program for K-12 as an alternative way of learning. There are three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.

The climate of the area is typical of Colorado. It may vary a little from one side to the other, but it will never be worse than southern Colorado. Therefore, if you live in a climate that you can't handle, move to Johnstown. It is a wonderful place to live. You'll find a high latitude with cold winters and snowfall can happen at any time of the year. A lot of snow usually means it will be a wet winter as well. After a snowfall, you can expect warm days. In fact, there are less options here for high school students. There are no 4-year colleges here. There are no community college options. The nearest community college is in Colorado Springs. A community college is usually where students from small towns like Johnstown turn when they want to get their college education. The middle schools have much higher standards to get into than the public high schools. It is the high school students who have the most options here.
